Henri-Auguste-Jules PATEY

Born In 1855, died in 1930.

He first studied Sculpture with Chapu, then medal engraving with Chaplain.

Accepted in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1873, he won the first prize for medal engraving in 1881, and won the Bronze medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition.

In 1896, he was appointed Coin Engraver, in replacement of Jean Lagrange and chose the torch as his monetary hallmark.

Bénédicte wrote about him: "Patey's art comes from Chaplain and Roty, combining the plentiness of the first, with the delicacy of the second".
